The Portuguese mentor has warned his team against the Premier League champions, Manchester City, who he believes were strong contenders to win the Champions League this season.
With Real Madrid facing Manchester City during the midweek European fixture, their coach, Jose Mourinho, has warned his players against complacency and has told the press that he is wary of the threat which is posed by the Premier League champions.
Manchester City will have to try to come out with all guns blazing as, in order to qualify for the next round of the Champions League, they have to win both their fixtures, and have to rely on a set of results which will make them reach the pre-quarterfinal
stage of the tournament.
If everything goes in favour of Manchester City, Los Blancos are the ones who are going to take the heat as Dortmund currently sit in the safest of places in the group, and a win against Ajax would guarantee that Dortmund have qualified for the next round
of the prestigious competition.
While speaking about the game against Manchester City, Jose Mourinho stated that the Premier League champions were favourites to win the European title, but they have not lived up to their expectations and that fact should not be taken lightly.
“Before the tournament began, you'd have to say they were one of the favourites. So it is not normal that they have been eliminated so soon.”
“That's just a part of football though – they are in trouble and that's a disappointment for them, but I'm sure they are still going to be motivated to win.”
“Everyone knew as soon as they saw the group that it was going to be a difficult one. Madrid, Dortmund and City all aspire to win this. At Madrid however, we knew how to react.”
Real Madrid are currently in the second spot of the group which was labelled as the group of death, right at the start of the Champions League.
However, there have been two teams who have managed to perform, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid. But the Champions League is full of surprises and now it is time for Manchester City to pull off an upset as they take on the Spanish champions at the Etihad
stadium.
