I had a black mollie named tyson (no im not a mike tyson fan, i just thought that was a nice name for him.) about a year or two ago. He died. He lived about three months. During his last weeks he had a white fungus type thing on his side. My grandma said to ignore it that it was nothing. Why i didn't listen to my gut, I don't know. What a foolish thing to do. I knew it couldn't last, though. my grandma has a bad history with fish. they always die. in fact, i had an xray fish and it swam into a little hole on his treasure chest and starved himself to death. Soon after, his tank mate, a white mollie, died of no apparent reason. Can someone tell me what killed my Beloved black fish?

  1. Your Tyson died of Ich plain and simple.  Mollies are typically salt water fish.  When keeping them in fresh water are very prone to the fresh water version of ich.  A white type fungus that covers the fish.  Keeping the fish in cooler temperatures and brackish water tends to ward off ich, but I will warn you, I keep them in full salt and they still get ich.  They are live bearers and therefore are prone to stress and ich.  That is the way of the mollies.

  2. I know that people can become very attached to pets so I send my condolences.  Maybe you should have checked out the suspicious looking thing on his side.  Now let me wax controversial: What's the whole point of pets...They have shorter lifespans (for the most part) so they are going to die before you.  You are just setting yourself up if you get attached to them.  Furthermore, people have taken this pet care thing out of hand.  Spending loads of money on surgery for your cat is not my idea of good fiscal management.  Whatever happened to putting them out of their misery.  Worse in the context of a suffering world where so many people are living in abject poverty.  In my view, it is a travesty that some dogs are living better than humans.  Ridiculous!.

    so...um...sorry about the fish

  3. I'm not an expert but that white fungus could be white spot. I had a few fish die of that. You can buy a special treatment for it that you put in your aquarium to prevent further losses. RIP Tyson.

  4. Well, Tyson probably had some kind of Fungus on his side and you'd have needed to buy anti-fungal treatment for him. I'm sorry for your loss =[
