Question:

Mouse Breeding getting out of hand?

I began breeding mice a year ago and its beginning to get out of hand. I started with only 2 mice (Ruth and Trill) and my basement is now full with them. I decided to let them roam in my basement as there is no way they could escape but i did not realise how fast they could breed. I now cant enter my basement as the floor is now completly covered by mice... should i stop feeding them (i now have to feed them 5 bags of grain a day to keep them alive) or should i hire an exterminator to get rid of them? i cant even sleep because of the squeaking sound that comes from by basement. 1. you know this is what happens when dumb people do stuff without thinking or researching.quite honestly i think you are an  idiot, because only an idiot would let mating mice go free tocontrol a whole level of your house! so i think this story is a load of **** and you are just trying to see what people say.and if it is true, you should be arrested for animal cruelty, because all them mice will have to be destroyed. may they chew through your walls and invade your home!

  2. Wow,what a Muppet.

  3. This is nobodie's fault but your own. If you hadn't continued to breed the mice, you would have a controlled amount of them. They are YOUR mice and it's your fault they're existing. It'd be cruel to stop feeding them or to kill them. Maybe you should like sell them to people or give them away or bring them to a local Pet Shop and they can sell them and care for them properly.

    How many are there??

  4. your best chance is you can't sell ANY of them is to let them ALL go into the wild in a bunch at the SAME time. then they can stick to gether and defend themselves.

  5. Ugg.. "beginning to get out of hand"? I think you never had control on the breeding process of your mice.

I wouldn't even call that breeding, as actual breeding means that you are selective on the breeding process and making sure the babies get good homes. Letting mice roam freely in the first place was just crazy. Not to mention the place must be totally filthy!

Mice can start to reproduce at 5 weeks of age, and a female can breed within 24 hours of giving birth, so you must have quite a big amount of mice there.

At this point, any method to get rid of them would be cruel... To stop feeding the mice would just get them to start eating each others as they die, the extermination process might be painfull, but it might be the best solution at this point.

Do yourself and pet mice a favor from now on though... don't keep pet mice, or if you do, don't do any breeding!

  6. Sell them, if some don't sell, let them run free...or feed them to a cat or snake...lol but if you give them to a petstore, they are most likely to be fed to pet snakes there.

  7. Oh, c'mon. It was almost believable, but you took it too far and ruined the gag. :P
