Hi. I keep my 4 mice in a 10 gallon fish tank, and like after 2 days it starts to smell. If I put them in a wire cage will they smell bad quickly after cleaning? I found a cute wire cage in some british pet store online which is kind of expenisive once you convert the money. Will it be worth it?

  1. well, actually, all you have to do is put vanilla frosting and cut fruits,  at the bottom of the cage. remove the frosting and fruits the next day. it takes about 24 hours. so i put my gerbils in an old hamster cage. and the next day i removed all the frosting and fruits, and my cage smelled GREAT!!! i felt like i was gonna eat it. and then i put my gerbils in it, and it smelled GREAT for 3 weeks. you just gotta put CareFresh bedding on the bottom of the cage. it soaks up all the odor. It worked REALLY well!!! :)

  2. I would think wire would be better. I think though with four mice you will find you will need to do some basic tidying up at least every few days regardless of what type of enclosure you use.

I have found  with our hamsters just having one hamster in a good size well insulated cage I need to clean it up and replace where she goes potty every few days (I also want it to be clean and sanitary for her) and also protect our home from smell.

Good luck with what you decide! =)

  3. get them some bedding and underneath the bedding put some arm&hammer baking soda.

  4. A ten gallon tank is too small for four mice, plus since it's enclosed on all sides it holds in the odors and stinks faster.  A wire cage would be better because the air has a chance to circulate.

  5. My son has a rat in a wire cage and it still stinks. We hang a car air freshner nearby and it helps a lot.
