I accidentally bought mouse/rat formula food for my two winter white hamsters. Is it still ok to feed them this?

  1. i've heard that you can feed it to them for a while, but i think the food labled specifically for hamsters just has more nutrition for the hamsters and not mice or rats

  2. No! I'm not exactly sure, but I am sure that you don't want to take a chance! If you do take a chance, keeep in mind that your hamsters have a 50/50 chance of dying! I would never take that chance with Nibbles! (My hamster!) Just go back to the store and see if you can trade it in for hamster formula. Even if you can't, it's still not a good idea to try feeding them mouse/rat formula, if it would work on hamsters, it would probably say Hamsters on the label, don't you think? Hope I helped and good luck!

  3. Its okay if its only temporary,

But in the long run, hammy food specially for hammies is best, it gives them the nutrients they need, etc etc.

    Good luck though

  4. yes, if you can't return it, but most pet stores will take it back, but it will be fine for a little while

  5. it  is very important never to immediately change your hamsters diet. This will upset them terribly and even make them sick,

Hamsters can eat almost anything people can except alcohol, candy, and pickles. They need a balanced diet of the right foods to stay healthy, though. Hamsters can even eat rat/mouse lab blocks and dog biscuts  or other treats such as hay, dry dog/cat food, yogart drops, and hanging seed thingys

there is not things like dried corn, sunflower seeds or nuts - none of those are safe for rats so they won't be in the food therefore they may be missing nutrients

to not risk anything thrying to trade it back at the store witht the recipt would be best :)
