Move from Villarreal not a step backward, says AZ Alkmaar’s Jozy Altidore – Dutch Eredivisie news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jozy-Altidore-c19634 has revealed that he does not see his move from Villarreal to AZ as a step back in his career. The 21-year-old arrived at AFAS Stadion earlier in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
The American ace started his professional career at New York Red Bulls in the summer of 2006. After spending two seasons with the Red Bulls, the striker made a big move to Villarreal in a bid to further his career.
However, the 21-year-old failed to make an impact at the Yellow Submarine and was loaned out to Xerez, Hull City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bursaspor-c38700 respectively. Until his arrival in Alkmaar, the American International had only mustered a measly three league goals since his
arrival in Europe.
However, Altidore has made headlines since moving to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 with impressive performances in Dutch top fight. The young American ace has scored three goals in six appearances.
Altidore revealed that he does not see his move from Villarreal to the Alkmaar outfit a step back in his career.
“I do not see the move as a step back. Alkmaar are very different from Villarreal. The clubs have different ambition. In Alkmaar, players train. There was no time in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011. It’s all about performance. You play each season twice against Barcelona and Real
Madrid and you have to qualify for the Champions League as well. There was no time for me to adjust there”, Altidore revealed.
The young striker only made nine appearances for Villarreal in his three-season stay. The American forward revealed that presence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giuseppe-Rossi-c15027 and Nilmar made the competition very stiff and he failed to make the Yellow Submarine starting eleven.
“I was too young back then. Moreover, I had to compete with the strikers who were already complete, such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nilmar-c28044 and Rossi. I was eighteen and had no idea about European football”, Altidore concluded while talking with the media.
The 21-year-old has made a great start to the 2011/12 campaign. The youngster will be hoping to continue with his rich form and prove his worth in the Dutch top tier before making his dream move to one of the top European leagues in the seasons to come.
