Move not an erosion of Andy’s power claims Morris – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362’s power within the team.
Given the demanding nature of the England’s schedule, the ECB last night decided to name http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashley-Fraser-Giles-c46314 as the new coach for the team’s limited-overs version, allowing Flower to take extended breaks and spend more time with his young family.
After being named as the Poms Head Coach following the dismissal of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s fixture list offering little respite, it was imperative that ECB devised a strategy which not only allows the rotation of players, but further helps them protect one of their greatest coaching assets.
However, the appointment of dual coaches may create a significanct problem in terms of power struggle and whether the men in charge are on the same wave length in terms of making the right decisions for the team.
Morris feels that there should be no conflict of interest as the ECB has clearly defined the roles of Giles and Flower. The former’s stacks have rise following his impressive tenure with County Champions Warwickshire. After serving the club as a player, Giles took over as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862’s director of cricket and guided them to the Division One title.
Moreover, he has worked closely with the ECB in recent times, primarily as a selector, but such has been his impression that the board hardly looked at anyone beyond him.
"I don't see it as an erosion of Andy's power," Morris said. "Ultimately he is accountable for playing strategy of all three formats of the game. He remains a selector and also has responsibility for the day to day planning. He will also see some young players he wouldn't have seen before in the county scene.
"We know Ashley Giles as a person and we know him as a coach. He has been through our coaching programme over the last four years and he has done a terrific job with Warwickshire."
