  1. Hi Freddy!

As a previous student of the Mexican system, I can tell you that their standards are way higher than those in the US. Mexico is a country that prides itself on education and it's high standards.

It is a well known fact that there are more teachers in Mexico than soldiers!

Morelia is a nice city!! However, this is just my opinion, you may find it different because of your own tastes.

As a freshman, you will never run out of things to do!! There is lot's of nice pretty girls all over town, there is also clubs for under 18 where you can go and dance and mingle with others of your age without touching alcohol. They do sell sodas, juices, etc.

The food down there is AMAZING!! I fell in love with it so much I am going back in October!! Sweets are a must down in Morelia!! YUMMY STUFF!!

If you have never lived outside of the US it may be a bit of a shock to you how different everything is!!

Over there you really don't need a car, as is the case here in the States, you can ride buses which run without schedule every 5 minutes or so. They are dirt cheap!! About 75 cents each way!! Or you can take a cab and they are also super-duper cheap!! So you don't have to be stuck at home if you don't want to!! They have cyber cafes all over the place, and high speed internet is available to anyone, so you can still stay connected with your friends here on the US.

A lot of young people ride scooters. They are the most popular mode of transportation for the young people there!! Mainly because many of the streets are very narrow and dificult to manuver with a car, so scooters are easy, cheap, and fun!

I am thinking about sending my little girl over there for at least a year of school, mainly because I want her to learn spanish and get to know a different country and its customs. I think it would be a great experience for her. She is really excited about the prospect of doing it, so it is a posibility for the near future.

But like a said before, It is entirely up to you. Are you willing to live without some of the things here in the US? Have you ever been outside of the country, how did you do? Did you enjoy the experience? Do you speak any spanish at all? If you do, your experience will be much more pleasant rather than for someone who doesn't speak the language.

You should also check some of the turist websites, they will give you ideas of things to do and places to go!! This time on my vacation in October we are going to some natural springs and pools place outside of Morelia (about 25 mins away), and we plan to stay to see the celebration of Day of the Dead, which is something amazing down there!!

You will like all the holidays there, Mexicans are famous for celebrating in the most incredible ways!! And everything is full of color, taste and excitement!!

Moving to a diferent place is always stressful, but having your family there will probably make it easier for you to assimilate the culture and people a lot faster!!

I wish you good luck, whatever you decide, go with an open mind and the knowledge that it will be a great adventure!!

    Best wishes!

  2. Charlie if right, as usual. <G> Morelia is a beautiful city with a fine historical tradition. This could be an opportunity to become fluent on both English and Spanish as well as in your field of study. I expect that fluency in both languages will be a skill that is highly valued in both countries by the time you graduate form college.

Michoacan is a facinating state with one of my favorite towns, Patzcuaro only a few kilometers from Morelia. What a wonderful adventure

  3. It would be a great experience for you.  Do you speak Spanish?  All cities have great schools and poor schools...and to ask around for recommendations.  Most have bilingual schools too.  It would be very educational, and a wonderful  opportunity for you. When you are older, you may want to return to the U.S., but this is a great opportunityy to learn to know Mexico too.  If you were born in the U.S. and have not alreadyy applied for Mexican citizenship, you will need to in order to go to  public school in Mexico without paying fees.  There are many other advantages too.  You can have dual citizenship. you can apply for Mexican citizenship at the nearest Mexican Consulate with your mother.
