Is Aruba a good place to move? I am considering it, but I want to have a typical, picture perfect, carribean island.

  1. No.  The beaches are great and the inland is desolate and flat.  Try St. Lucia.

  2. I just got back from Aruba. It's a desert island cactus and lots of iguanas. The diving is great. The island is 6 miles wide and 18 miles long. it is also very expensive. Ok to visit, but wouldn't want to live there. Search the internt for pictures of different islands. Most of them are desert, not palm trees and lush vegitation.

  3. The answerer above makes a great case for NOT moving, visiting, or spending any money on the nasty little island. Crimefree??? That's a bold faced lie; Illegal drugs and underage drinking are the norm, and the police and judicial system are currupt, lazy and provide a dangerous environment for tourists. If you don't believe this, you are simply in denial. There are thousands of nicer, safer and civilized tropical islands which one can visit or live.

  4. trust me you do not want to move to aruba. Why don't you move to the carribean.

  5. I own a 2nd home in Aruba. My choice was made because I love the people and it reminds me of the US only back in the 70's. It has great nightlife and is relatively crime free, (although it has gotten worse in the past 5 years). Beautiful sand, sunny days and I don't mind that sometimes the cell phones go out for a week.

Aruba has more relaxed laws, not the idiocy of Government take-over we have here in the States. It's not easy to become a citizen/resident of Aruba. They have socialized medicine and I've seen to many friends die because the care is too late. Other friends end up going to Venezuela for cancer treatment etc. I only plan 6 months in Aruba, 6 months in the States for retirement.

I'd be sure to spend 2 or 3 months in a place before you make that decision. There are a lot of islands in the Caribbean with different laws and different landscapes, Aruba is a desert island. Look before you leap.
