I am an American and I would like to move to France. How can I move to France and work in the professional world? How can I become a French citizen? Merci mille fois!!!

We will be happy to welcome you in france but you have to know 2 or 3 important things.

You have to speak french because not a lot of frenchies speak english (when you read me , you understand what I mean)

The unemployment is very important in france because economy is not really top

But don't hesitate if you fell you can do it because there are a lot of good reasons to cross atlantique.

It is very hard.  I speak French fluently and have worked and studied in France.  If you find an employer who likes you enough to get you a green card, then you can stay.  But if you quit or are fired, you'll lose your status and will eventually need to go back to the U.S.  On the other hand, if you're independently wealthy then of course you can stay.  The French are happy to have the taxes of expats.  But you won't qualify for their socialized medical care because you wouldn't be a French citizen..

Best way, and I'm not joking, is to get married to a French person.  It's not a bad strategy if you really love the country.

Its certainly possible but you need to be properly prepared.

To begin with, you need to speak fluent French. Do you? If not this may be your biggest chore.

You also need to make sure that your professional credentials will be recognized in France. Depending on your field this may not be easy. If you haven't already earned your credentials it may be a good idea to go to college in France.

Getting initial permission to reside and work in France can also be difficult. Unemployment in France is dramatically worse than in the United States. It may take some fancy footwork to secure employment before going there but that is the sensible way to go. Once someone has indicated a desire to hire you then the French government usually goes along and gives you a work permit and long stay visa.

Once you've got a job then it relatively easy from there. You can apply for French citizenship once you have resided there for five years. If you have gone to college in France the time is reduced to two years.
