I have always wanted to move to Morocco and am now seriously thinking about it, but not quite sure what to do job wise? I am a psych nurse and can't speak arabic yet but can speak pretty good french, but wouldn't mind doing something else until i settle in and all.

What should i do to prepare? Any english/ american universities there?

  1. I lived in Morocco for 2 yrs and had a wonderful time there. I got to explore pretty much the whole country which is incredibly diverse from the dry desert areas in the south to the snow capped peaks in the Atlas. Speaking French fluently is definitely a must and there is an American university in a town called Ifrane which used to be a ski resort near Fes. It is called Al Akhawayn University  www.aui.ma. Before you go, make sure you have French translations of any degrees etc. and get them notarized.

Morocco is a beautiful and really exotic place full of history and culture. But, there are some things to respect while you are there. Modest dress in public, not showing lots of money ,bargaining chaos in the souks etc. are things to keep in mind.

Be careful at night in certain cities such as Casablanca and Tangier especially if travelling alone. However, Marrakech is a very safe and my favorite place. I walked around all the time all alone and was not bothered (there is a special tourist police in Marrakech everywhere and in civilian clothing) apart from the vendors being really pushy in selling you stuff.

PS: great great food and architechture!!

  2. Speaking French is a plus. I do not speak French so I can not work. Do you know someone n Morocco that will vouch for you as a financial supporter? You need one in order to obtain your residence. Also bring a police background check from the city/state you live in you need this for your work permit.

  3. i think thats a great idea i lived in morocco for 12 years then i moved here and now im thinking about going back.

yes there is alot english/american universities there don't worry!

  4. American Center or America embassy they can help you about work , study , live.

    Anyway welcome , you'll enjoy

  5. It is my understanding that all of the universities have English language courses.  Most of the students already know some English and therefore the teacher only speaks in English.  There is a course you can take to certify you as being able to teach English.  If you're interested send me an email and I'll give you the information.
