Movement observed in all five fingers of Robert Kubica
At the time when the Lotus Renault GP are considering the best possible option to replace their driver Robert Kubica, and are wondering if the replacement will be for a few months or for the entire 2011 season, the injured driver showed movement in his fingers.
The Polish driver met a terrible accident during a Rally race last Sunday, in Italy. Multiple fractures in leg and hip-bone, a broken arm and a completely crushed hand put the driver’s racing future in uncertainty. Initially, there were speculations that
the driver might have his hand removed or he might not be seen on the track ever again.
However, the seven-hour-long initial surgery, carried immediately after the accident, went successful and only after two days, the driver showed movement in all five fingers on his injured right hand.
The surgeon at the Italian hospital, Igor Rossello told the reporters earlier today, "The operation went perfectly. It is a great result that Kubica can now move his hand, because the surgery was long and complicated."
Although the early medical reports suggested that the 26-year-old Renault driver would need at least a year to fully heal, many medical experts suggested that the drivers take far lesser time to recover than the other patients. Similarly, in Kubica’s case,
the people closer to him have strong faith that the driver will make to the track much sooner than expected.
However, the exact condition of the driver can only be determined after he has undergone the other crucial surgery, scheduled for this Friday. This surgery is aimed to work on the injured right shoulder and foot of the Pole. Moreover, another operation is
also lined up for the driver in a week’s time for the broken elbow.
Also, the Renault team owner, Gerard Lopez reached Italy today (Wednesday) to see the driver. After his visit he told the media, "Robert is a great loss for us at the moment that is forcing us to revise our plans. This is clearly a difficult time. We don't
know yet if and when Robert will return. If it will be a long recovery and he will not be back this season, we need to rely on an experienced driver.”
The team has so far shortlisted three drivers for Kubica’s race seat including, Bruno Senna, the team’s reserve driver, Nick Heidfeld and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
