  1. With iMovie (standard on all Macs), you can edit at any point of what you record.  As for others, such as Windows Movie Maker, it's probably the same though I'm unsure due to lack of experience with others.  I have used iMovie HD though and it's great!  Macs are best for producing videos!

  2. i pretty sure you can only edit the begining and the end

    if your useing movie maker

so do a lot of starting and stoping

  3. In any video editing application, you shud be able to edit anywhere you like, even in wmmaker (split vid file 1->creates vid file 2->split vid file 2: icon under preview monitor).

You're right, even if you can edit anywhere, it is good  to shoot in sections according to a prepared storyboard & script (part of best practice), makes it easier to preview & select. Shoot continously when there is dialogue as it's pretty difficult to sync video movements & audio on a dubb.

For broadcast where firestore hdd recorders are used, folders are pre-organized before shoot. This file mgmt. facilitates upload, preview & editing, moreso, if the editors are a diff. crew.

  4. Use Windows Movie Maker to edit beginning, middle or ends, but it's always best to shoot short scenes. Watch any TV show... most scenes are under 10 seconds each.

Make your no less than 10 seconds long, but never never shoot 30 minutes at a whack! 1 or 2 minute chunks is managable.

  5. Upload the whole video on your computer and with any good editing program you can edit and cut out any video you want.  I can do this with Windows Movie Maker
