Movie Formats?

Question

Can anyone tell me what format DVD's are in, i have loads of movie on my computer that are in Xvid format and i need to convert them to the format compatable for a DVD player.

Can you also suggest any free programms that will do the conversion between the formats

DVDs are in DVD compliant MPEG-2 (you can encode your video in MPEG-2 without meeting the DVD requirements).

Try DVD Flick - it'll do the conversion and burn the DVD.  And it's free!

There are a lot of DVD players that will play DivX & XviD - you'll lose some quality converting formats plus it'll take a long time.  A new player may be a better option.
