Its going to be the Bee Movie (because the other couple coming over have a 20 month old son, as we have an 8 month old son) ... I need some ideas for movie night snacks. I like homemade snacks vs bags of chips and what not.

I was thinking some stuffed peppers, and I'm not sure....

Its a DINNER and a MOVIE ...

    thats all i can think of!

  5. Chips and Dip,Kettle Corn, Buy Pizza.

  6. i think stuffed peppers sound great with taco meat

  7. Why not stay with the "Bee Movie" theme, and make stuff with honey?  Like "Easy Honey Chicken Wings"...

        *  1/2 cup honey

        * 1/3 cup soy sauce

        * 1/4 cup chili sauce

        * 1 teaspoon garlic salt

        * 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

        * 8 drops red pepper sauce

        * 3 lbs. chicken wings or drumettes

    Combine honey, soy sauce, chili sauce, garlic salt, pepper and red pepper sauce. Arrange chicken in single layer in a 9x13-inch baking pan and pour on sauce. Turn chicken over to coat with sauce. Bake at 350°F for one hour, turning over once. Cool slightly and serve.

    If you want something a little more entree-ish, you could make a Honey Chicken or Honey Garlic Chicken.

        *  1/2 cup soy sauce

        * 2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion

        * 3 cloves garlic, minced

        * 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

        * 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root

        * 4 to 5 lbs. roasting chicken, whole

        * 1/4 cup honey

        * 2 Tablespoons soy sauce

    Stir together 1/2 cup soy sauce, onion, garlic, oil and ginger root. Place chicken in plastic bag and place in a bowl. Pour soy sauce over chicken and close bag. Chill for 3 hours, turning chicken occasionally to distribute marinade. Drain. Skewer chicken neck skin to back. Tie legs to tail; twist wing tips under back. Place chicken breast side up on rack in shallow roasting pan. Roast in 375°F oven for 1-1/2 hours or until drumstick moves easily. Mix 1/4 cup honey with 2 tablespoons soy sauce. Baste chicken with honey-soy mixture during last 15 minutes roasting time.

    Then, since it's getting cool out, you have an excuse for cider (with honey straws) and something along the lines of Honey Oatmeal Cookies:

        *  1/2 cup hot tea

        * 1 cup raisins

        * 2 cups flour

        * 1-1/2 cups quick cooking rolled oats

        * 1 teaspoon baking soda

        * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

        * 1/2 teaspoon salt

        * 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

        * 1/2 cup shortening

        * 1/2 cup butter or margarine

        * 3/4 cup honey

        * 1 egg

        * 1 teaspoon vanilla

        * 1/2 to 1 cup chopped walnuts

        * 1 package (6 oz.) chocolate chips, optional

    Pour tea over raisins; let stand at least 15 minutes. Combine flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly; set aside. Cream shortening and butter; gradually add honey until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Drain raisins; reserve 1/4 cup liquid. Alternately add flour mixture and reserved raisin liquid. Stir in nuts, raisins and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350°F about 12 minutes or until browned. Let stand one minute on cookie sheet; remove and cool on rack. Store in airtight container.

    And whenever you want to build around an ingredient, Google it and look for a professional association of growers/producers.  It's in their interest to give you, the consumer, recipes to use their product, and they get those recipes from contests and pro kitchens and great chefs.

  8. Layered Taco Dip

    Layer these in the following order, on a tray or platter with sides:

    1 can refried beans

    1 small jar salsa (or 1-2 c. fresh salsa)

    1 container guacamole dip

    1 shredded iceberg lettuce

    8 oz. shredded cheese

    chopped onion; sliced black olives

    chopped fresh cilantro

    Serve with sturdy tortilla chips, to dig down through the layers......

    Fruit, ladyfingers, Teddy Grahams, marshmellows to dip:  a lemon or orange pre-stirred yogurt is a good dip

    Pretzel Rods - you can roll them in melted chocolate coating and sprinkle with chopped nuts or sprinkles

    For the dinner, stuffed peppers are good, but you'll need something else for the toddlers to eat.  You might just want to BBQ hot dogs & burgers, with a salad and baked potatoes (or oven fries).....

  9. I'd make a kid friendly dinner like pasta, lasagna etc.

    Snack wise I'd make Kettle Corn!

  10. pasta bake :D

    cooked pasta, vegetables/meat he likes and pop that in the oven in a microwavable dish :)
