Movie question.... I think it's an 80's sci-fi movie...?

When I was about 5 or 6 I remember seeing a sci-fi movie. In the beginning of the movie a kid wakes up in the middle of the night I think during a thunder storm and looks out his window to see a space ship and scared runs to his parents room. The parents tell him it was a nightmare and that is that. Then I remember the aliens are real and they invade the human body by injecting something on the back of the peoples' necks. I remember one of the scenes take place in the kids school and he sees his teacher is one of them. I also recall the kid breaks into the space ship because the aliens have his parents and the main alien looks like a giant brain. The other aliens I think look like a big black ball with spider legs (was probably the aliens' carriers). He ends up saving his parents and you see that as they are in a field running away and the alien space ship starts taking off it starts blowing up. Then at the end of the movie it again shows the kid waking up from a nightmare quickly opens the window to see if the space ship is there but it isn't so he goes to check on his parents and he freaks out when he sees the aliens taking his parents... End of movie. Does any one know the name of this movie? I have been going nuts trying to find the name. Google didn't help.

anyone know what this movie is called its bout a guy that gets transported to i think either another demention or galaxy by a ring i think and is ported to a world where he has to fight as a warrior
