Question:

Movies about painting?

I'm part of the creative writing org in our high school, and for an upcoming activity we're going to be screening a few movies, and our teacher would like these to be movies that show the influence of visual art on literature. As president, I've been tasked with finding the films.

Salma Hayek's "Frida" may be an obvious choice, but since this IS high school, it's a little too controversial. And besides, it doesn't exactly draw a clear connection between painting and lit.

Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated, thanks! :)

  1. Not strictly what you needed, but A Dog of Flanders shows a lot of what a young, disadvantaged artist has to deal with.

Oh, the old black and white version of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is probably something to consider.

  2. "Pollock" is a great one..

    I also recommend "Basquiat".
