Is it easy to rent movies in Mexico City? Are DVD rental places common there? Are movies in English easy or difficult to find? Do movie theaters show good movies? What kind? Thanks!

Yes, it is easy to rent movies in Mexico City. Yes, DVD rentals are common here. Almost all the movies are in english. The movie theaters show the same movies as the ones in the U.S.

they have many blockbusters in mexico city...although you'll have to open a new account, they won't have record of the one you have in the US.  the movie theaters are VERY impressive.  I love cinepolis VIP.  the food is great!!  

most movies are in english, with spanish subtitles.  the exception is cartoons, which are often dubbed because young children can't read that fast.  DVD's are very easy to find in english, although the menus might be in spanish.

Rentals are easily found.  Blockbuster is the most common rental place but there many others.  You can also buy videos for about the same price as in the US.  Try buying DVD's at Mixup - it is a popular national chain of CD's and DVD's found in most shopping centers.

With videos, however, you must be careful about the region that you rent and the machine that you are using.  The US uses region 1 DVDs and Mexico usually sells or distributes region 4.  (This was a problem before when regions were more distinct.  Many machines now are multi-regional.)

You can rent or buy with the different audio tracks (Spanish or English) and with subtitles in both languages.

There are several large cinema chains here.  The best are Cinemex and Cinepolis.  They present US first run movies about 6 to 12 weeks after they are released in the US.  The movies are all subtitled.  Children's movies are dubbed or available in English with subtitles.  (Check before you buy tickets.)
