Movies or quotes talking about discrimination against the Spanish?

I am reading a book for school and I have picked the theme of discrimination. I'm looking for movies that are appropriate enough to discuss that have such discrimination, set in the United States. Any examples are helpful.

Thanks!

  1. Do you mean Spanish speaking?  Or Spanish?  There's a big difference.  Most of Latin America, as well as some parts of Europe, speak Spanish, as do parts of the Caribbean.  However, Spanish describes people from Spain (Spaniards).

I'm guessing you mean Spanish speaking, as discrimination against Spaniards is not a hot topic.

One new movie highlighting discrimination against Mexicans is "Under the Same Moon"...new on DVD.  Tells the story of a young boy who comes across the border to find his mom, who came north to work.  In several instances she's discriminated against for employment.    Another good movie that highlights discrimination in general is "Crash."  It shows how people's live intersect and how perceptions influence them.

  2. If by Spanish you mean Mexican immigrants, try "Giant", starring James Dean, Rock Hudson, and Elizabeth Taylor.  Also, "Bread and Roses" and "El Norte".

  3. The movie Mi Familia ( My Family) it touches on the subject of discrimination against Mexican immigrants. It is a great movie also.
