Real Zaragoza have signed on former Rayo Vallecano midfielder, and free agent, Jose Maria Movilla.
Placing 16th in last year’s La Liga season, and currently sitting in 14th place this season, Real Zaragoza decided to take on the 37 year old veteran, who was sitting as a free agent.
With his contract ending last season, Movilla was a free agent, until Real Zaragoza decided to cut a one-year deal with the experienced midfielder.
Movilla’s youth career was spent in Real Madrid, however, the midfielder could not make the team cut. As a result he had to settle for modest teams, CD Colonia Moscardo, CD Numancia and CD Ourense. In 1998, he made it into the Malaga CF squad, and played
an important role in helping the anchovies make it out of the Segunda Division B and into La Liga in just two seasons.
However, after Malaga Movilla returned to Segunda Division, and joined Atletico Madrid. He then went on loan to Real Zaragoza, and helped the team beat relegation and win the 2004 Copa del Rey.
Movilla then moved to Real Zaragoza after three more seasons on loan. After his spell in Zaragoza, Movilla then ended up joining Real Murcia. After his time in Murcia, Movilla then moved to Rayo Vallecano where he played 119 games and scored 5 goals.
He now moves back to currently 14th place league holders Real Zaragoza. Zaragoza has played mostly in La Liga, however they have spent time in Segunda Division, and even the third division.
However, during their La Liga years they have won the Copa del Rey six times, and have been finalists in it five times.
Fifty eight seasons have been spent in La Liga, 16 seasons in Segunda Division, and four seasons in Tercera Division. In 2004, they won the Supercopa de Espana, and were runners up in 1994 and 2001. They also won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1994-1995
season.
So it seems like Zaragoza have taken on the experienced 37 year old Spanish midfielder. With the season just starting, and in need of more wins to make sure they don’t get relegated, Zaragoza have hopefully made the right choice.
