  1. See if you can find an aquarium maintenance company. The company i work has moved countless tanks with out any problems. Good luck and hope the move goes well for you and your fish

  2. Wow, that'ssdefinitelyy a huge fear of mine. I've got a nice 4ft setup and I've already thought of what I'd do in your situation.

First off those poor fishies will not enjoy the trip so you can try to give them away to friends or sell them back to your fish store.

As for the tank, once its drained and packed up any delivery truck will make the journey for you if your car is too small. Although as you can imagine it will probably end up costing you what you paid for the tank :P

  3. get polythene boxes/fish bags/newspaper/fish can last up to 12-18 hours in these conditions

1)put maximum of 6 fish in the bag tie it up and place it in the polythene box with newspaper surrounding it

2)if the polythene box is big enough u should be able to fit 3 bags in there

3)package the bags tightly so they dont move around while in the boxes

4)u can get heater pads if need be

    hope this helps u out

  4. Are you driving? I presume you are but my Aussie geography isn't that great.

Head to your local independent aquatics centre and see if they know of any local specialists, if not, pilfer some poly boxes off them and some fish bags, head to the DIY store and buy a dozen large buckets and do it yourself. The tank should be the last thing to go and the first thing to set up at the other end. Depending on time, you can get aerators to help in buckets with livestock, but they should be ok for a few hours without.

Use the poly boxes for fish ad inverts, in bags if suitable, or tubs/buckets for those who may puncture a poly bag. Live rock can go in the buckets, and corals on small frags so they don't get crushed. Save as much of your water in more buckets and bags as possible. Keep any filter media submerged also.

Plan it very carefully and a move should be successful with few, hopefully no, casualties along the way. It will be a big project, but with planning it can be done, good luck!

  5. You will basically have to tear down your whole tank, pack live rock, sand, inverts, fish etc in appropriate containers and move the tank empty.    Your local fish store may officer the service or be able to refer you to someone who does.  If not you can do it your self its just going to be a lot of work.  Ask your local fish store if they will sell you some of the bags they use for fish.  Pack  your fish separately in the bags and also use them for your inverts, sand and live rock.  I would recommend packing the bags in Styrofoam coolers with heat or cool packs as needed to help mantain the temperature.   I'm not familar enough with the area but if you are going more that a couple of hours have your LFS blow oxygen in the bags before they are sealed.  If that is not an option make sure you keep the bags oxyganated by opening them and resealing them as needed.
