Moving Mass-Michigan with old car; better to buy new car in MA or in MI?

I'm moving from Massachusetts to K'zoo Michigan next month. I currently have an old car ('91) I was going to ship to K'zoo and hope it works for a while before I have to buy a new one. BUT states taxes are a bit lower in MA and I'm wondering if it's better to just buy a new car here now and ship that, or will I have to pay taxes and registration/license fees two times; do I have 30 days to get state tags in MI?

  1. i would just sell the car in Mass and buy a new one in Mich to much money to ship 1991 car

  2. You will have to register the car twice, once in MA and once in MI if you intend on driving it at all before you move.

Paying to ship a car is not cheap.  Why not sell your car before you move and save all that money in shipping expense. That extra money will come in handy if you just wait to buy a car once you relocate.

  3. yup i agree with him!

    Buy one in Michigan!

cuz the money$$ you'll save in lower taxes you'll spend in shipping the car or GAS![[$$$]]
