Moving an electric stove.?

What is the best way to move a free-standing electric stove? Could I just lift it slightly, put an old rug under it and slide it?

Depends on how far you're going to move it.  If you only have to move it a short distance and have a couple pieces of an old carpet that has a good jute backing, then yes, you could put the carpet, fiber side down and slide it under the legs to move it.  They're also making a new device, of Teflon, I believe, that comes in round pieces and are sold at hardware and home improvement stores.  They're called furniture movers and some say they work really easily.    Or if you're going a distance, then probably a dolly would be better.
