Question:

Moving an entire hive bees and structure?

A friend was having her trees trimmed and it was found that she has a hive in one of the larger limbs of the tree. I am wondering if I can cut the limb, ideally at the top and bottom of the hive, and move the entire thing to my farm. I can only find items pertaining to moving the bees out of their chosen hive, not moving the entire hive structure. I figure it would be like those people who keep their hives in a semi and travel pollinating farms across the country. Do I need to cover the hive as I move it? Is there a better time of year, for the bees to move them to a new location? When I move them what kind of environment should I put the hive in? Make sure its of the ground? Insulated? Or should I just let the trimmers do what ever it is they will do when they return in the fall?

  1. Build a new hive in an area where bees may access the food they need to make honey. (i.e, similar to your current area).

get an expert to move the bees to the new hive - you capture the queen, the rest will stay with her.

I'm not from your country, but depending on the season, you may have to feed the bees until they have re-established themselves.
