Question:

Moving around trying to fall asleep...

Whenever I've tried to sleep my whole life, I've had to change the position I'm in every few minutes. For example, I'd be on my right side with my legs curled up, then I have to change it to my legs straight out, then I have to move to my other side, curl my legs up, straighten my legs out, move to my stomach, turn my head to the other side...on and on and on.

If I try not to change my position, I can't stop thinking about it and it becomes impossible to sleep. And this happens every few minutes or more. Is that normal? It gets really annoying and makes it hard to sleep =/

  1. Well it could be normal for some people. I tend to fall a sleep soon as i hit the bed, and my friend need to set up for very long time to fall a sleep.

The way u can solve that problem is by some how fall a sleep faster, so u don't have to worry about thinking of position. The best one that I know is that you should take a shower before going to bed.

The other thing is that your body is not finding ur mattress comfortable so i think you should try to change the mattress.

  2. I don't know if it is normal but I have the same issue.  I've had that forever.  I've changed mattresses and I've changed the temperature in the room.  I've changed the lighting and the smell in the room.  None of that changes my mind telling me I have to switch positions.

  3. it is normal. your body is finding a comfortable position.

then something is making you unable to sleep it's not your constant movement.

constant movement means that your mind is active and not relaxed.

  4. it's definitely normal. i can't stay still in bed either, and i've been trying to figure out why for the past few years. i recently discovered tylenol pm "simply sleep" and that completely solves the problem. if your'e looking for something homeopathic, try calms forte. it doesn't have any unnatural chemicals in it. pretty much just oat and passionflower. it really calms the nerves and makes it easier to go to sleep without taking any actual medicines.

if you'd rather not take anything and you're just concerned with falling asleep this minute, try laying down, close your eyes, and count backwards by 3's from 500. if you can't count backwards by 3's, count backwards from five hundred but picture each number jumping over a fence with the moon and night sky in the background.

    guaranteed snooze-fest.

    other ideas:

try listening to music and only thinking about the music

concentrate on your breathing and only your breathing

avoid caffeine during the day (if you drink lots of soda/coffee during the day this will help A LOT with restlessness, i promise)

  5. I do that too! So annoying. Try pillows like under your back, with your legs on them.

  6. this is not normal. you might have some anixy or stress. Try yoga before you go to bed, it will relax you and prepare you more for sleep.
