Moving cross country?

i'm going to move from memphis, tn to san diego, ca and i want to rent a truck and drive there. now i looked at u-haul and it's over 1.000 dollars just to rent the truck (not including gas) and thats a little too much for me? what other options that are not too expisvive do i have?
