How much is rent in Vancouver on average for a basement suite.. in a fairly safe area that you can recommend (my sister lives close to Hastings and yeah.. I don't feel like removing my car radio as a safety precaution haha)..

Also what kind of jobs are offered there and are in demand?

It's fairly easy to find a job in Calgary, but not alot of character or culture in this city and housing/rent is pretty high up there still and the winters SUCK.

  1. first i don't recommend living by hastings or nearby area. vancouver is not any safer than calgary, i do suggest living in the west end if you can afford it.

for jobs, look into healthcare or i.t. lots around, check craigslist or workopolis. for culture and character, there are lots here, indo and chinese canadian are the main two, at times you might get overwhelmed with different type of manners but people here are very tolerant so anything goes, we get a whole bunch of rain and much less snow than calgary. we have roads that don't make sense unlike calgary they're all straight, and rent is ridiculously very high and don't think of owning a pet since most of landlords are afraid of them.

good luck and welcome to vancouver!

  2. Cheap in the suburbs   We live near metrotown  $650.00 for a one bedroom  retail in the malls  have postings  KFC  pays union wages

  3. Hastings, is very dangerous and unsafe, there are hookers there, drug addicts there, and also Hobo's that will just break anything to get there hands on what they want, Or something shiny. A great cheap place is in North Vancouver, and a realy trust worthy building is Woodcroft. Its very cheap, about 200-400 a month, and everything you might need is in reach of 10 or 20 minutes, since Park Royal (Medium sized mall) is right near by.

Well, i hope i helped you.
