Me & my father would love to move to bath.

We live in Ontario, Canada and I was just wondering what is the realestate like over there?

Anything that should make us reconsider?

  1. Lol woo I live in Bath! haha

Well, if you don't like rain, this isn't the place for you. Rains ALL the time, and is pretty much always c**p weather (even in the 'summer') lol

It's way overpriced as well, and they are trying to get rid of all the cheap shops here, it's like £4 for a hot chocolate!

Housing is sooo expensive as well....my friend is selling a small 2 bedroom flat and cause it's in the city center, its like £300,000...but if you move slightly out of the center, like Bathford/Batheaston ( a 20 minute bus drive away - with buses every 15 minutes) they are a fair bit cheaper. I live in Bathford and it's mainly older people that live here, but its nice and quiet, and we got a 3 storey house with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms for like £300,000....which you wouldn't be able to get in the city center lol.

I guess it's a pretty nice place, how old are you though? It's a bit boring for teenagers, what with rubbish weather and everything being expensive. but I guess older people would prefer it..

there are a few chavs here, but no where near as bad as other parts of the UK, just stay out their way and they will stay out yours. (if you dont know what a chav is, look it up)...crime isnt that high here, some underage drinkers though..but they just hang around in parks at night..

there are LOADS of tourists here, mainly spanish/french/chinese...and they can get VERY annoying trying to walk through town...very hectic..

but theres nice buildings, some nice people, and yeah, i like it here. theres some quite good clubs, but things here shut pretty early..and the bus services stop at 11.30..

schooling? im gunna be honest about them lol,

Ralph Allen - most people there are druggies and always smoke weed..people think its a good school, and it kind of is,  but be careful lol

Hayesfield - all girls school, pretty good. I went there, and they have good teachers and get good grades..

Beechencliff - similar to hayesfield, but all boys school

Oldfield - again, like hayesfield, but not as good I think, all girls school

St.Marks - don't go there. rough and chavvy

    hope i helped lol

oh one more thing - teenage boys here- ugly idiots. only want one thing. grrr. lol

  2. Unless you are a millionaire, your money will seriously go no-where. If you live in a nice place, then consider staying where you are!. Baring in mind that there are about 2.6 Canadian dollars to the British pound, check this site out for some realistic facts:

    www.rightmove.co.uk

I did a quick search for you so check this out as a typical initial search:

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/action/public...

Watch out for things that say 'shared ownership' as the price advertised is only for half the property and you then have to pay rent to the person who owns the other half as well as paying your mortgage! - look also properly at the photos as you will see the places are usually tiny!

The other things to consider are to try and get freehold property which means that you own the land that the house stands on, if it's leasehold, you have to pay ground rent every year - it's some times as little as £10 per year -but it's the conditions that often come with it which can sometimes be very unreasonable. There are occasionally options available to buy the lease and then the property will become fully freehold.

Also, you have to pay what we call council tax every month on your property, which is a compulsary monthly charge. This can range from £60 per month for a small apartment, up to as much as £700 - £800 per month for a mansion and then everything in between. It will usually tell you the properties council tax banding on the real estate's site, and then you need to go to the website for the local council of the town that your house is in and look for the council tax banding charges for that band for the year, for example for Bath (in the county of Somerset) you need this page:

    http://www.somerset.gov.uk/somerset/cent...

Read this page carefully to fully understand it! - if in doubt, phone the council and ask them!.

    Hope this helps.
