Question:

Moving from Germany to Mallorca?

I currently live in Germany, have dual citizenship (German and US), and am planning to move to Palma (or around that area). Before going there I would like to have as much info as possible. For example: what part of Mallorca is the best part to live in, what health insurance, what phone and internet provider, etc. Basically all the information you would need when moving to a new state or country. If anyone has any information that could help m in any way, feel free to share what you know. Thank you!!

  1. Relocating to another country is a big step, so wouldn't it be a sensible idea to contact places such as the German Embassy in Spain for free informative booklets about living in Spain?

Mallorca is not a large place and the best part to live in is the part you like best - and can afford.  Some people like to be in the center of things ... others where there's peace and quiet.  This is a personal decision that only you can make.

For phone and internet provider, probably telefonica is your best choice.  Many other providers go through Telefonica anyway.

With health insurance, you have two choices: private or the Spanish state health insurance.  I find the state health very good.  However, you'll have to discover if you're entitled to it.  For example, if you are employed with a proper contract, this should cover you as far as state health goes.

If you have a job to go to, maybe your employer can advise you.

If you're retiring there, try asking for information from the body (State or otherwise) who will be providing your pension.

If you're opening your own business there, ask locals to recommend a good "gestor" - cheaper than a lawyer - who will explain matters.
