  1. Just fill out the forwarding address form at the post office, you can even do it online (costs $1 online).

  2. It can work but it irritates the new occupants of your last address.  All junk mail does not get forwarded, so they will get a lot of mail they don't want.

  3. Yes you can. But any mail marked "Do Not Forward" will be 'killed.' The senders of any mail marked "Address Correction Requested" will be notified. If you are using this ploy to scam welfare or hide, it doesn't work. Simply rent a box and put in a Change of Address to it.

  4. No, put in a change of address as the po box. Whoever moves in the place after you is not going to allow someone elses mail to keep coming through there.

  5. Well, you need to fill out a "change of address form" with the US Postal Service.  You can do this online 24 hours/day or fill out a little post card that you can pick up at your local post office.  Request that your mail be forwarded for the next year- that REALLY should give you enough time to take care of everything.  You can have it sent to a PO box or to your new physical address.

You can't keep your old address, it's someone elses address now.  Remember addresses are NOT like phone numbers.  Addresses are PHYSICAL LOCATIONS, so you know in your head that it doesn't make sense for you to keep it.

After you have filled out your change of address form, then make all your other changes online.  Your bank, credit cards, magazine subscriptions, investment holders, utilities, etc ALL have a way for you to change your address over the internet.  You can even get a new drivers license online.  I cannot think of a single thing you have to do in person.  Don't make this more complicated than it really is.

  6.      You can put a change of address from your old address to a PO box.  Mail will be forwarded for one year to your PO box.  After which, mail will be returned for an additional 6 months to the sender with your new correct PO box address.

You should certainly fill out a change of address form, but if you are expecting important mail, you MUST notify the sender of your new address.

If a "sub" is delivering your mail to your old address, and 10 months down the line, they have a check for you with your old address, what do you think they'll do with it?

They'll deliver it, of course.  That's your fault for not notifying everyone of your new address.

  7. Sorry, you cannot hide.

    Change of address time.

  8. Obviously, you want someone to think you're still at the old address. It's not an uncommon situation. Let's say someone with school children moves but still wants their children to attend the old school. It's an age old way of making the school district think you're still living in their district.

Whether it's right or not is a different issue but people do it all the time. Whether it's legal or not depends on whether you're trying to defraud someone, like for financial gain.

The downside is there's no guarantee the post office will forward all your mail.
