So my boyfriend is looking to move over to the United States from the United Kingdom, but we are not sure how long this could take. Does anyone know a website where we could find this information, or knows any information on this topic? If we were engaged would this make any difference?

Thanks

xxChelseaxx

p.s. PLEASE refrain from telling us that you either want to move to the UK from the US, or telling us about how much better the US is. We already have that information. ONLY HELPFUL ANSWERS PLEASE!!!

  1. It depends on where you want to go, and why.

I don't know, but I would guess that America has a similar immigration policy as us- you have to be useful to them or they don't want you.

Being engaged means nothing legally. Marrying him wouldn't help either unless he is a US citizen

Try posting this in the American section of Yahoo- you might find some Ukanians who have done it.

  2. Try going to the www.britishexpats.com and either posting the question in the US forum, or searching in the immigration section. If you post in the US, expect a few sarcastic replies, but someone will pop up with a link to the main ways of getting into the US. But it is not easy, and will take a long time unless your boyfriend is a US citizen, or you have a skill that is needed, or can invest in (ie buy) a business over here to run, or you can get your company to sponsor an overseas posting etc.

As an aside, on your PS - I wouldn't tell you how much better the life is over here, because frankly, I dont really think it is....its different to the UK, but its far from the utopia a lot of people would have you believe...its a big country, and hard to generalise, but the usual list of things that people are trying to get away from in the UK are here as well - high crime rates, yobbish youth etc, some things are cheaper, some are more expensive, healthcare system is appalling etc etc

  3. hey i looked up and theres a question like yurs on answers too soo heres the link!and some info on what to know...:)
