  1. You do what your orders tell you to do.  They will handle everything.  You will be assigned a sponsor.  Does anyone not use their chain of command any more?  What the h**l kind of military is this??

    USAF Veteran

  2. Worry about that when you get your orders. But, if you have depends, you need to see if your next duty station allows depenents. Some don't....

If it does, you need to inform your dependents (spouse or other) of your orders and tell them to start doing research of the area. First being a cheap hotel that you will be able to afford to live in for about 2-3 weeks once you arrive at your base.

Once that has happened, you arrange to have your household goods picked up. You should go to your NCO about this, and they will give you more info about it, but you set a date, and the nearest base to your home, or where your dependents are, the military will pay civilan contractors to go to your house, pack up your stuff and ship it to your next duty station. Be sure that who ever is at home knows about this, and is ready, and has enough stuff set aside to live off of for the next month-2 months.

Once you arrive at your station, send your spouse or whomever out to start looking for an apt the minute you sign in, and make sure hes doing that while you are improcessing. Once you get to your unit, you should recieve about 10 days TDY and maybe leave if they allow you to. Use that time to settle into your home.

If you are a single solider, with no spouse or children, its a h**l of a lot easier. Once you reach your duty station, they will do all the work. you will live in the barracks so no need to look for housing of any kind.

  3. Your orders will tell you where/when to report, etc, and you'll be advised who to talk to regarding travel arrangements, etc.
