Moving house across Canada from Vancouver Island to Ontario and someone said it is cheaper to ship via train?

Is it? Can we do that from Vancouver Island? What companies should we contact?

  1. No way!

    Contact a house moving outfit and it will do much better with excess dimensions traveling on the highway.  There are many, many areas of "close clearance" along most any railroad right of way.  

    Unless you're willing to ship it in chunks no wider than 11' 6" (as a rule...  although this dimension may be excessive in many areas as well and either way will result in extra charges for special handling) rail is not a good choice.

    Truck transport does have advantages over rail in certain markets.  This is one of them.
