  1. Sage green, a muted teal, or a soft peachy apricot all look good with the darker cherry flooring. They all go well with white or cream trim on the windows, too. The only colors that wouldn't work well would be grays or browns since they would be boring and not brighten up the space like you want. Have fun!! : )

  2. buy rugs to scatter as dark wooden floors show every mark just like dark cars do,then which ever rugs you choose can match the walls the wooden flooring is no longer attracted by the eye.

  3. Mustard yellows, gold, maragold yellows, deep to lighter sage colors, burnt orange or sienna. Browns and tans are fine depends on the brightness.

I would say go and pick out samples and actually paint a tiny bit on the wall and live with it a bit and then decide.

I do know that red would be overkill and pastel colors or really light colors are out.

Whatever you do decide on make it something you can live with and will stand the test of time and fashion.

  4. Don't concern yourself too much with the flooring.  It'll look rich and great with just about anything you choose.

You're off to a great start with a neutral-colored couch!  You didn't mention the style of it, though.  (Casual/contemporary?)  Are you going to be using an area rug?  If so, you might want to find one that 'speaks' to you and use colors from IT to coordinate your room.

This would 'go' with the couch, detract from the dark floor, but it doesn't offer much in color inspiration:

This one sort of 'bridges' a few things.

It has some dark tones in it, which will communicate with the floor's richness, it contains some tan, so it'll 'speak' with the couch, and it also offers some fun accent colors that you can use in the room.

With this example, I'd paint the walls a sage green then use the berry color in draperies, throw pillows, etc.  (Keep in mind to use other patterns, too, so not everything is solid-on-solid).  Including a small amount of black in your accessories would really set the look off.  (As in tie backs for draperies, piping around a throw pillow, etc.)
