Let's say a 17 year old is totally financially capable of living in New York with a roommate, she had saved up plenty of money, and she knows she is ready.

What would she have to do to move out of her parent's house in Pennsylvania, and move to an apartment in New York?

Please, no discouragement, all I'm asking for are facts.

Thanks.

  1. a court document that formally emancipates you from your parents, or they're permission, which I'm sure is the issue. and if someone 18 or older is with u when you leave they can be arrested for "taking a minor across states lines" you can't wait til your birthday?

  2. If you are asking for facts you may be discouraged.

As the previous person said, you may not be able to get an apartment because of your age.

The other thing is that landlords in NYC want huge deposits for apartments.  If an apartment is around $1300 per month, you may need around a $6000 deposit.

Now if you are independently wealthy, don't worry.  Just buy a coop or condo and enjoy.
