Just want to ask parents that have children in the age gap of 16 - 24yr

and are considering the possibility of them moving out:

What are the 5 most important things you want your kids to know before you are comfortable and willing to let them out on their own.

Thanks for your time

  1. I would not let a 16 year old leave home.  He/she needs a couple of more years to learn more about life and to mature.

The five things I taught my children are:

    1.  Put God first.

    2.  Wait until your married to have s*x.  Because it is wrong to have s*x without marriage and you wouldn't know who all the other person had been with.  And you wouldn't know what kind of disease they might have that would ruin you for the rest of your life.

    3.  Be nice to everyone.

    4.  When you wash you clothes, separate the dark and light colors.

    5.  Watch where your go.  If you go into an undesirable place, you will only find undesirable people there.  Take care of yourself and go where the nice people go.

  2. GREAT QUESTION!

    1.  I want them to know I am here for them.  Not to bail them out of life's difficulties, but here to keep them from falling through the cracks.

    2.  I want them to know what hard work is.  And that it must be done consistently.  And that without it there will be no free rides.

    3.  I want them to know how to control their money, instead of it controlling them.  I want them to be frugal and yet know when it is ok  to have a little freedom.  I want them to know i will not pay off debts for them, but i won't let them disappear on the streets either.

    4.  I want them to think for themselves and have an independent spirit.

    5.  I want them to know it is time to move on.  I want to see them moving toward maturity, and driven by their own inner motivation.

    I will stop there at 5 . .  .there are more. . . .

  3. I don't have any kids that are ready to leave home just yet.

The 5 things I will help them with before they leave home are

    1. Basic household stuff ie easy to prepare meals, how to turn on the washing machine, how to empty the vacuum cleaner bag, Ironing

    2. Budgeting ie teaching them money responsibility

    3. Self importance  in relationships or work

4.handy man stuff ie change a car tyre, change a light bulb, replace a blown fuse,
