Moving out of my apartment, how CLEAN should it be?

I have had this apartment for nearly three years. I paid the landlord a 200 fee when we moved in, he said that was strictly for cleaning purposes. We have no damage really...just a messed up blind because of my son. lol

However the floors.....are thoroughly stained from spilling drinks and my sons sippy cups falling and opening....

The floor is carpet...and I dont have the money to steam clean it. Although I would if I could...

I am going to make sure the rest of the house is near perfect...but the blind and the carpet isnt too good...

what should I do? ( oh and the spot cleaners arent working too well on the stains....tried it)

  1. the cleaning fee is just that--  for the landloard to get the place cleaned before someone new moves in.

look in your rental agreement for the details about the agreement.  it is probably not refundable.

you should replace the broken blind.  damage is different from dirt.

  2. Your landlord will probably take the money, they are always looking to make money. See if you can rent a carpet cleaner, and if the blind is easy to fix, i would fix it.

  3. you said that he kept $200.00 for security deposit.

If you rent a steam cleaner and clean the carpet  let's say it's $50.00 for the blind I don't know the size of it but let's say another $50.00 ,if you do that you well get back your money and you will come up on top! If you have a friend or a relative you can ask if they have a shampooer and you will only need to buy the shampoo.

If none of this works for you get a pail of hot water and some carpet shampoo and a scrub brush and scrub by hand. go to Value Village and see if they have a blind that will fit the window .

  4. u will probabally lose ur deposit i would just accept u r going 2 use it and if u get any of it back its a bonus

  5. Your Landlord will keep the deposit as you mentioned you have dirty carpet and blinds, recommend you clean carpet with a rented Carpet Steam Cleaner pour in two cups of White Vinegar no carpet shampoo needed and fill the water tank with very hot water, the vinegar will clean, brighten, and deodorize the carpet, you should also pretreat spots with some White Vinegar and a cloth and rub vigorously to remove spots or use Shaving Cream to remove the spots just spray a dob onto spot and rub in until vanished then allow to dry and then vacuum up The blind should be either replaced or cleaned, you can dust them off with an old but clean Paintbrush and then cleaned with one capful of Fabric Softener in half bucket of warm water and sponge this mixture on and wipe off the fabric sofener will remove the dust and dirt and help to repel more dust and dirt longer if blind is damaged this should be replaced Good Luck !

  6. You probably will not get your deposit back if these things are deemed beyond normal wear and tear.  Clean the apt, clean the appliances and let it go at that.

  7. Clean the house real good..use some carpet fresh on the carpet to deodorize it and try to do your best...The landlord will keep this deposit for you have mentioned that your son has dropped drinks on it and caused the stains...The landlord charged 200.00 deposit for cleaning, which it will more than likely have to be replaced...I would still clean the place the best i could ...There is a clause called "considerable or normal wear and tear, but you are exempt from this due to your son spilling drinks..which is not normal wear and tear...

  8. Well, if it was me, I would get down on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and scrub that carpet. It didn't look like that when you moved in, and it shouldn't look like that when you leave.

  9. Most landlords keep the cleaning deposit anyway. I would try to get the spots up but they have to have the carpet cleaned before they can rent it. According to my brother, who is a landlord, that's the law. You can go to the discount stores and by a blind for less than $10.00 depending on the size.

Clean it the best you can and explain about the carpet and hope he understands.

  10. Replace the blind usually $5 at Wal-Mart sometimes you can even find them at the Family Dollar, and scrub the carpet pretreat stains with vinegar rent a cleaner usually around $50, and use vinegar about three cups in the tank with your water that should bring up alot of the stains. As long as the apartment is clean, walls wiped down, cabinets cleaned, etc. the landlord may let you slide on the carpet depending on how old the carpet is and how it looked when you moved in, carpets do not last forever especially in apartments with kids, he may have been planning on replacing it soon anyway.  Clean it as best as you can and fix the blind and hope for the best, you get some money back, but expect the worst, he keeps the deposit. Good Luck.

  11. depends how nice the landlord is and how much you want to get back from your down deposit ya know!?

  12. SINCE YOU ARE SHORT ON MONEY, YOU SHOULD GET RESOLVE CARPET CLEANER PUT IT ALL OVER YOUR CARPET BUT USE MORE ON STAINS, AND YOU CAN USE YOUR VACCUM CLEANER.

    I HOPE THIS HELPS!!

  13. We were landlords for 10 years and would have loved to give back a deposit, but most of our renters left the place trashed just because they figured they would not get their money back. We just wanted the place to look as clean (normal wear and tear is to be expected) as it was when you moved in. If the blinds are just plain old mini blinds I would go to Walmart and get a replacement (they are real cheap), but leave the original to show them that you replaced it. This shows you really want to leave the place in good condition. As for the carpet I have had good luck with taking out stains with baking soda. Just dampen the stain then cover with baking soda and rub in a little. Let this dry really well then vacuum it up. Repeat as may times as needed. You should test a small area first to make sure it won't take the color out. This is a great way to freshen up the room to. I hope you get your deposit back, bad landlords have made it hard on everyone. Good luck!!

  14. It must be as clean as the day 'before' you moved in!

and, as far as what you can not fix, it will be deducted from that cleaning deposit you originally paid. The amount will be up to the landlord. If I were you, I would not count on getting any of that

$200. back, and hope he does not feel that you owe more!!!!!
