  1. Check out organize.com

  2. Get rid of anything you don't need or have been storing for anyone.  Give it back, give it away, garage sale it, just don't take it with you.

If there is a garage in your new place, put up shelves, as many as you can afford, both financially or space wise.  I wish I had more in mine.

Only use plastic storage bins to store stuff in the garage.  Cardboard draws moisture and will mildew.

Don't let anyone else move in with you when you get there, more people, more stuff, more work for you.

  3. As a professional interior decorator and organizer my best advice is to eliminate what you have not used in 6 months.

Be sure to do this while packing for your move. Also wash EVERYTHING and wrap each piece in bubble wrap, paper towels or hand towels. In doing this your items will be clean and will only need to be put in their place.

Also remember that there is a place for everything and at the end of the day TRY to put everything in its place.

Also, displaying too many pieces at once looks cluttered. I suggest to use less then rotate the pieces from room to room for a new look. Clutter-confusion. It may not APPEAR dirty to you but to others it may.

Be sure to put laundry away when it is done. It only takes a few minutes a day to do so and you arent left with baskets of laundry piled up. Wicker baskets or totes make for great storage. I use on for each family member and place it on the stairs. As I gather things from around the house I put them in the appropriate persons basket. When they retire for the evening they take their baskets up with them and put their things away. It really does eliminate messes while teaching them responsibilities. Space bags are WONDERFUL. They really do work as shown on TV.

  4. Best place to look at is Ikea.com and if there is not one near you they will ship you your stuff.

  5. Ikea.com, specifaclly:
