Question:

Moving removalists and wonky quotes?? Help?

Ok we’re moving 2 hrs and 16 mins away door to door (checked on google maps and tested it. is true.)

We’ve been getting quotes for $2,100

But on our calculations it comes to 1,500??

How does this work? We’ve seen $120 per hr for 2 men.

So it goes like this:

Upload 3 hrs

Drive 2 hrs 16 min

Unload 5 hrs

Drive back 2 hrs 16 min

= 12 hrs 30 min X $120 per hr = $1,500 right?

Is this reasonable?

Are we expected to pay for them to eat lunch?

Situation from regular estate home 3 bed 1 study. No piano no pool table. all light bamboo furniture. Nothing that me and my sister (age 18 21) haven’t easily lifted (other than 3 pot plants which we use a trolley for.) most everything is ready in the garage.

To a house where half goes up stairs and half down. Strait external stairs. Some have quoted without knowing the destination.

We’ve had over the phone quotes cheaper. But we don’t want another one of those bad experiences “well… that’ll be…”

  1. Well the best way to estimate the cost of such a move is to go to the budget planner on movingcollege.org .

In general local moves are calculated by the time they take and the number of workers.

The time has traveling time which is the time it took to drive from the company's offices to point A and to get back from point B to home base and labor time which is the time it took from the moment they started working+driving to point B+off loading everything at destination.

The total number of hours is multiplied by the rate per hour + cost of packing supplies and this is the cost of your move.

Sounds complicated? well its not and as I said use the budget planner it will make your estimate much easier.

Any company you think of hiring check on the "check your company" page on movingcollege.org

    Hope I helped,

    Nick
