-how easy is it to get a job in these fields, are they indemand?

-the approx salary for these jobs

-how competitive the job market is

-the cost of living compared to the UK

-would our english qualifications transfer to Aus or would some other training etc be needed?

  1. Both jobs are definately highly in demand, you will be paid vey well. Doctors in regional areas are paid more highly than in cities, but they are also busier with higher workloads.

www.careerone.com.au or www.seek.com.au are where most jobs are advertised, but medical jobs are more often advertised in industry magazines etc. The economy is booming and there is a general shortage of employees, particularly in the medical, mining and construction industries.

Living expenses are fairly high in most of our capital cities due mainly to the high cost of renting/buying property. If you were prepared to consider a smaller city or large town you would be much better off financially.

I think both of your qualifications transfer straight across but www.immi.gov.au has the details of the licencing agencies that can help you with more information.

  2. Being a doctor you would be easily accepted as a skilled worker. Medical fields are in incredibly high demand in Australia. Your husband would be able to get work though I'm not sure if it would be considered a skilled position.

Doctors get excellent money, depending on what they specialise and what level they are. I don't know exact figures so I won't lead you wrong. But you could definitly afford to live a very comfortable life in Australia. A building surveyor would get the average income of around $60,000 per year.

For yourself you would have very little competition and would most likely be able to find a sponsor to bring you to Australia. Doctors are in such demand in the bush that incomes are nearly doubled by the government. Your husband wont have it so easy but should be able to find work easily enough.

Cost of living in Australia varies from state to state and city vs regional. Sydney is the most expensive but would probably have more work for you and also pay more. A average house in the suburbs would cost around $600,000. Being on a doctors wage you won't be struggling.

Your medical qualifications would be recognised in Australia and assuming your husband is university qualified or at very least has a trade certificate then his would be too.

Lastly that person is so biased towards Brisbane, there is not a shift of Australians moving there nor is it booming. If there is anywhere that is growing rapidly it is Perth.

For all the legalities see http://www.immi.gov.au

  3. Doctors are in short supply in Australia and the building industry is booming so I don't see you having any problems getting employment.  I suggest you contact the Australian embassy they should be able to answer most of your questions.  You could also try contacting the Australian Medical Association.  I think the cost of living is very reasonable, working families can afford everything they need and some of what they want.

  4. Hello,

Australia needs doctors.  There is a big banner on the wall of the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital and I am not sure if itis an advertisement for nurses and doctors or just nurses. Queensland Health has been trying to recruit from overseas and lots of doctors here are overseas trained. You would have to contact the Australian Medical Association to see if you qualify or what training you may have to do. The AMA may be able to help with pay questions.

I do not know anything about building surveyors but building is booming.  You could look up careerone.com.au or seek.com.au.

Brisbane is where people from Australia are headed also.

This iswhere I believe the boom is going on. That and north queensland at the mines.  Property and rents are horrendous in these places because of the mining boom.

A new development is called North Lakes or Northlakes at Mango Hill/Griffin is to the north of Brisbane about 35 minutes by car.  Accessable to Redcliffe Hospital 10 minutes, Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital 35 minutes by car and Caboolture Hospital about 15 minutes and these are run by Queensland Health I think. Between June 2006 and 2007 this area had a 22% increase in population.  New schools, library, huge shopping centre still growing. I know some people recently moved from the UK and they moved there and they are happy. Go to google earth and type in North Lakes or Northlakes, Queensland and take a look. Inmy opinion, I think the northside of Brisbane is slower paced to the west and southside.

Not sure about the cost of living comparison but friends  from UK say it is better here. Hope what I do not know someone will.  Good luck and come on down.
