I've done a little bit of research and there seems to be jobs for MT in Melbourne especially. I'm just wondering if its feasible. I know my license can get transferred no problem but also what is it like living in Melbourne? Is it super expensive or can I find cheap places to live at least starting out?

  1. you need to check if your occupation is on the skilled occupation list..you can only qualify immigrate to Australia if it is

    SOL list

  2. renting in melbourne is expensive due to a shortage of rental housing and the recent boom in real estate prices. you will probably be able to find share accommodation at a reasonable price. the standard of living in australia is high and the rate of pay for massage therapists is good so you should have too many difficulties.

have a look at gumtree to get an idea of pricing and availability of housing http://melbourne.gumtree.com.au/

melbourne is a great place to live.

  3. Massage Therapist scores very low (40 points) for the points test. Are you sure you can get enough points to pass the points test for a skilled work visa? You'll certainly need sponsorship to drop the points required to an achievable 100. I assume you've looked into the visa question, but if not, you'll find everything you need at http://www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htm

Melbourne's a great place to live. If I wasn't settled in Brisbane, that's where I'd be. I know that accomodation is in short supply and is pretty expensive, but if you can find someone to share with it will be manageable. Melbourne's public transport is fantastic so you should be able to manage without a car which would be a major saving for your budget and costs of food etc are no worse than in the rest of Australia (and are better than Sydney which is expensive for everything).
