Ok, I didn't ask for advice on safety, just bars. I'm not totally naive!

  1. well the best place for you to hang out in the evening in brixton is clapham,i guaranty you will, like all boringly predictable south Londoners spend all your nights somewhere in clapham hi street or  northcote road why don't you just wake up and move to Camden maybe a bit more housepricey but you only live once

  2. Don't listen to those first 2 answers, Brixton is like any other area it has rough patches and better areas. Which of course in any area you need to be street-wise. Fridge on Brixton Road is quite good (past Brixton Town Hall) and also Ritzy Cafe.

  3. Brixton?????. Don't be out late at night  my love.

  4. Welcome soon to 'The s**y South'!  I've lived in Brixton for the past 4 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.  Transport's good.  Ok, the safety aspect doesn't get good press, but stay alert and don't do anything stupid, like wonder around the town aimlessly talking into your mobile.

Ritzy Cafe is definitely nice.  Otherwise try the White Horse on Brixton Hill - it's usually quite during the weekdays (good comfy sofas) but they have live DJs on Fri and Sat nights and will charge you £10 to get in after 10pm.  Good food too.

  5. People who think of Brixton as full of drug dealers and murders ready to jump at you once you get out of the station/car are just plan ignorant. Yes, stay alert and be street-wise but I lived there for years and really people just get on with their business. I love to hang out at the Ritzy Cafe. Great staff, they often have live events and you can watch a movie when you get bored.

  6. I was going to suggest a bullet proof vest, but on reflection, just don't carry any cash, valuables or credit cards about with you too ostentatiously. Don't believe all the PR about how it's suddenly become THE area in which to live. Just see if your estate agent has chosen to live there..........
