Moving to Brooklyn a Relief for New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow -NHL Update
The outlook was dim for the New York Islanders, a franchise of the National Hockey League (NHL), which failed to secure a deal on a new arena from the city earlier this year and had their current lease coming to an end in three years time.
Fortunately, for the whole New York Islanders staff and especially General Manager Garth Snow, securing a new deal with the Barclays Center, a newly built world class facility in Brooklyn, is something that will now allow him to perform his duties without
having to answer where the team will be in 2015.
Talking with reporters after the announcement of New York Islanders moving to Brooklyn in 2015 made official on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Garth made it known how relieved he was to finally have it done.
"It saves one question for me, and absolutely it's a big one," Snow said. "Obviously we get a lot of certainty now. To be able to stay in the area and play in this facility is just fantastic."
Jack Capuano, head coach of the New York Islanders, felt the same about the move and hopefully the transition will be smooth after they honour the remaining three years on their lease at the Nassau Coliseum, the current home of the NHL club. For him, players
will also have it a lot easier with the latest facilities along with fans feeling comfortable and looking more towards watching home exhibition games.
"There is no question that when we go to other arenas that you can see players look around, players talk to players and they see the certain elements that those new arenas have," Capuano told NHL.com. "This is a beautiful new facility and our players will
be extremely proud to call this our home."
The Nassau Coliseum has remained the home for the Islanders ever since they joined the league back in 1972, but after failing to get a new arena built in the Nassau County, they knew that getting a new deal done somewhere else was the only way to keep the
franchise on Long Island and going.
