My best friend and I want to move to california when we finish our first two years at community college on the northeast. Could this be possible? she wants to go to school in Ventura (brooks institute) I want to go for pharmacy which isn't close to ventura. i was thinking maybe we could move somewhere between ventura and L.A, but of course, living anywhere, especially in CA will be expensive, but is it do-able? I mean we both have two years to save up but is it?

  1. I was born and raised in California and would never go anywhere else! I too am going to school to be a Pharmacist. You have to think though there are a ton of schools for both in CA. Orange County is very expensive (living there my whole life). Rent for one month in an apartment could be between 1500-3000 depending on the area. Many people who come to California to reside honestly don't make it, but that doesn't mean you and your friend don't have a chance. California could function on its own as a country, there was an article about that. Saving up for two years is a good start but if your gonna be realistic make sure you have a good paying job to keep you satisfied. If not I suggest transferring to different schools and living in dorms which might make it easier for you to continue saving. Try looking into the University of Phoenix. They have campuses spread through out the United States and they have a good program for pharmaceuticals. Chances are they have a campus in a neighboring city to Ventura. Working as a Pharmacist you need 1200 hours of training work, basically your just being watched the whole time, the hours suck and the pay isn't that great during that time either.  GOOD LUCK! HOPE IT WORKS OUT!

  2. It's definitely do-able! i did it! I moved from a small country town all the way to Fresno, Ca. I didn't know anyone there or had never been in a metro city before.I knew that California offered great healthcare job opportunities,so I was off. I did have to get used to the cost of living but i learned how to set up a monthly budget & stick to it. Also take advantage of the discount stores & roadside markets when grocery shopping & buying fruits/veggies.  I also used what the state had to offer when i wanted to go out & do something. California has lots of beaches, lakes, parks & reservoirs if you like the outdoors. The radio is also a excellent source for finding out about free concerts, new club openings,or activities the weekends. If you really know how to have fun & enjoy yourself, you won't need alot of money to do that. Don't worry, you guys will be fine!
