I've decided i need a lifestyle change...the Uk is a bit of a mess. I'm wondering if anyone knows of what processes i would have to go through to make this happen.

I've booked a months holiday there, in which I'll attempt to find a job & accommodation, for which i don't think i need a visa for as it's a short time, but eventually it will be made permanent and i need any info on what i might need to do, tips from people who have moved there, etc.

Also information on the types of job in demand.. it's been suggested taking a skilled apprenticeship dealie.

Many thanks

  1. You must obtain a temporary work permit and/or apply to become a permanent resident in order to live and work legally in Canada

Check out the link below for more information

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-...

  2. Don't get yourself into trouble, check out this site.

    http://www.canada.org.uk/

  3. The process of applying to become a landed immigrant can take a couple of years, and you have to apply from outside the country, so you might as well start now. All the information you need is on the official Immigration Canada website.

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

You can also apply for a work permit, I think they are for six months. While you're here perhaps you can find a potential employer who needs your skills, who will be willing to sponsor your immigration application, because you will need a sponsor. Good luck!

Edit: I tried to find a phone number for you, but apparently you can only call them from within Canada- not very helpful. From other countries you're supposed to direct telephone inquiries to your local visa office. In the UK that would be the Canadian High Commission in London.

  4. There are strict rules about immigrating to Canada. They will look on you much more kindly if you have completed your apprenticeship in the UK.

If you are caught job hunting or signing for accommodation while posing as a tourist, you may find that you are not ever accepted for a work visa or for immigration. That also goes for not telling the truth to the Canadian border officer at the airport.

  5. Start by packing.

  6. Your correct in thinking you don't need a visa for your visit. As for jobs check out the web site workopolis.ca. If you go onto the canadian.gov.ca you will be able to get the information about obtaining landed immigrant status. You can download all the forms needed form here as well, it cost about £700 five years ago so it has probably gone up quite a bit since then. The whole process can take a year or more and if you application is unsuccessful you will not receive a full refund. Good luck if successful you will not look back.
