Moving to China because of work, what kind of visa for spouse?

Hi, I have been offered a job in China. I have accepted the job and will be applying for a Z visa to work in China. I'm just wondering, does anyone know if my spouse will have the same visa or will he just be issued a tourist visa? I have a job waiting for me, but he does not. He will look for work there when we get to Shanghai. Will he also have the Z visa, which would enable him to work?

  1. What is up with the idiots responding to these questions?

When your school prepares the invitation letter make sure his name and passport number are on it.. and make sure the school understnads he is your spouse cause they can simply add him to your invitation.  He will come on the same visa as you, and it will show that he is your spouse.

For an example of  the invitation documents you will need. go to www.z-visa.com

  2. The best people to ask that question too is the people who have employed you.

I am an ex pat from the USA, but I am single.  I got a Z visa.  The laws in China have recently changed and to convert a tourist visa is no longer easy.  In fact, it maybe impossible.  Your spouse may end up having to leave the country, then get the proper visa to come back.  I could be wrong, the fact she is your spouse maybe an exception.  ASK THAT QUESTION!!

A Z visa is only good for a month once you enter the country, but it is then converted to a resident visa.  Your employer should take care of that at no cost to you.  You may only need to sign a document at the local visa office.  For me it was hassle free.

Your new employer should have all the answers.  If not, contact the nearest China embassy or consulate.  Do a web search for the closest one.

Your new employer, however, should have all the answers.  You need to do this now, do not put this off.  Believe me, visa hassles are a nightmare.  Be 10 steps ahead of the game at all times.  Never put visa issues off.  I can't stress that enough.
