I have looked up a lot of information on moving to Germnay because I am sick and bored of being in America, but all I hear is that it will be near impossible to find a job and a place to live as well as have a successful life. Also that if you are not fluent in the culture then you will not be accepted.

  1. If you are planning on moving to Berlin, than it will be very hard to find a job simply because there aren't enough of them even for the native people. Unemployment in Berlin is something like 20%...very high.

  2. That's partly true. The best chances for Americans to find a job here is if they're somewhat fluent in the language and have some higher education. If you're a craftsman, even a well-trained one, you will encounter many difficulties to start a business of your own, due to the various regulations that apply here, which mostly are protective regulations in their kind. But if you find employment with a German company (even after you have come here on a tourist visa), they can provide you with a working permit and all the necessary legal stuff that allows you to settle. It won't be easy, but immigrating to a foreign country never is, I suppose.

But I know of quite a few Americans who have made their way here; so why not try?

  3. Moving to and living in Germany is possible - don't let anyone get you discouraged.  If you do plan on doing it, though, you MUST speak fairly fluent German, just as working in the States requires (for the most part) speaking english.  If you learn the language, the understanding for the culture will accompany your studies.

  4. yes the chances of an american getting a job is very little. i was born in a small village called Wangen in the southern part of germany and most of the jobs available are for the well educated or for craftsmen.
