  1. Don't listen to Lizzy. Germans not hating Americans. Americans are welcome and staying so many years in Germany. We are from the US Army and staying long time here, we don't have any problems.

That's nice you are moving to Germany, Stuttgart is at the South and nice city. Better is you need to learn some German, but don't worry so much many Germans speaking English. Germany is nice place and you can travel easy to in Europe. There is so many places to see, history, cultural is a great place.

  2. stuttgart is located in the Bayern region.  Its a great region I live here and I have benn to stuttgart numerous times.  Its the same everywhere in Bayern.  Just try to pick up on basic german and dont worry most do know english in case you get hung up on a word or get lost.  The I rish pub is where most english speaking people hang out and there are numerous ones in the region.  There are alot of traditions but you will only learn about them by experiencing them.  you are not far from Schweinfurt by train so dont miss out on the X-mas market...its the best in all germany...there is alot to do in Stuttgart so have a good time  and mingle with the culture.....if you respect them they will respect you.  Oh and to be rude in germany is somewhat normal espescially in a store...example...they will stand almost on the back of your feet in line and will push by you if they need to...they also do this thing where the stop in the middle of the shopping isle and block it without thinking twice about others.  its not rude its just normal here just push your way by without hesitation.. Have a great time its like nothing you have ever seen before. oh and everything is closed on saturday after 2 and all  sunday so plan ahead.

  3. Learn to read basic German.

I stopped over in Frankfurt a few years ago and thought I would kill some time, so I jumped on the train into the city centre, found a nice pub and generally had way to much of the excellent local brew.

Came outside into the cold December weather, managed to find the train station, and not one direction in English on how to get back to the airport.

    No information counters anywhere.

Ended up travelling on every train in the wrong direction, missed my flight, and slept on a railway bench.

    I kid you not.

The worst night of my life.

Apart from that, Frankfurt was great.

  4. knowing how to speak German would help...

p.s they hate americans. no really say you're from canada

  5. Have always a English-German German-English dictionary with you (there are ones very small), so you or your German counter part can have a look if there are problems, and you should have a city map so that you can find home.

    very important words:

    railway station --- Bahnhof

    central railway station ---- Hauptbahnhof

    air port ---- Flughafen

centre of the City ---- Stadtmitte sometimes Zentrum

    McDonnalds --- MacDonnalds

thats all you need to know to survive.

    Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

    Heinz

  6. that's a lot you're askin for, it would definitely help to speak  a little German. as I live in Stuttgart and I speak both languages I offer you my help, if you need some specific advice before you'll leave or when you're in Germany just let me know, I'll help you out..why are you moving to Germany anyways?

O yea, one more thing, what Lizzy said is not generally right but also not wrong, I have lotsa trouble at school and with "friends" sometimes when sayin I was raised in the states, lotsa Germans don't like America right now because of Bush and stuff so you should be careful with patriotic stuff if you're from the states but that's gonna be fine, well educated Germans are mostly open to different cultures and opinions.. Good luck!!

  7. I live 50 km away from Stuttgart and Stuttgart is NOT in the Bayern Region. Stuttgart is in Baden-Württemberg.

    Sights:

    1. Schlossplatz

    2. Old- New Castle

    3. Königstraße (Pedastrian Precingt)

    4.SI-Centrum (Stuttgart-Möhringen)

    5. TV-Tower (First TV-Tower in the World)

    6. New "Messe" Stuttgart (I dont know what Messe means in English)

    7. Wilhelma (Biggest Botanic and Zoologic Zoo in Europe)

Stuttgart is a very nice city I can tell you.

    Have fun.

  8. Don't listen to Lizzy.  The clueless should really not be trying to give tips.

I personally haven't been to Stuttgart for more than a few hours over the years.  So I'll leave the particulars for that area to someone else.

But for Germany in general, do your best to learn and speak German.  A solid effort will go a long way with the German people that you interact with.  Don't start off a conversation with "do you speak English".  If they speak English and your German isn't working, they will switch to English.

Be polite and friendly.  Common curtousy goes a long way.  Don't be loud and obnoxious.
