Im a Canadian looking to move to India for approx. 6 months to a year at least. I've looked a few cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Goa, Bangalore and more, as well as the surrounding areas, But i'm still not sure what the best choice is. I figure someone out there who either has traveled there or lives there could offer some suggestions. Thanks in advance. I appreciate it.

  1. i would answer in an off-beat manner. Hope u get clear.

I don't know your work place. Naturally u would like to be close to your work-place.

I further don't know whether u r alone or with family. In case u r moving with family, many things become more important like medical facilities, general safety, etc..which are more dependable in big cities.

Having discussed the above, just forget bombay, it is too crowded and very costly.

delhi will be very hot in summer. u may not find this comfortable for work or pleasure. the summer shall be of 3-4 months. the same applies to big cities like ahmedabad, jaipur and chennai.

if u r fond of sea foods, nothing like goa. it is quite a good choice from weather, pleasure, food point of view.

bangalore is ok from most point of views but very costly for accomodation.

If I were you, I would settle for a moderate weather place near a big city to achieve mix of benefits of metro & urban culture. The prominent names would be pune, bangalore, baroda, simla, udaipur or bombay. Need more help? Just mail me through yahoo or shroffjatin@gmail.com

  2. I lived in Bombay (Mumbai) for nine years, visit Delhi every year, and have been to Goa many times on vacation (I'm Indian).

It really depends on what kind of lifestyle you're looking for. Mumbai is busy, advanced and fast-paced - it's a big city, and so it offers the amenities of a big city, but it's not as relaxed as a place in the mountains/countryside etc. I like it though - it's vibrant.

Pune is close to Mumbai - I've never been but I'm guessing it's similar.

Goa is a fun place to be. It's very touristy, there are lots of great beaches, good food and relaxed atmosphere. It's not as urban as Mumbai though.

Delhi... I'm not a big fan. I find it too big, crowded and dusty. The temperatures there are quite extreme as well.

    Good luck on your move!

  3. bangalore is one of the best places to settle down... people here are really friendly and are ready to help you, even if you are a stranger to them. and the weather here is pleasant.

  4. It all depends upon the purpose of your visit and how extensively you wish to travel. Along with the finances involved.

Mumbai is all commercial and Metro living is stressful. Accommodation is sparse and worse than SF areas. Usually warm weather. Seaside.

Pune is decent. More peaceful. Easier to live in.

Advantages of a smaller city. But getting crowded.

    Good climate.

Chennai: Hot, sticky most of the year. Water scarcity. Beautiful beaches. A completely diff atmosphere from the rest of the Metros. A little old world.

Goa is all touristy. Expensive. Easy weather. Beaches and fun along with lots to do.

Bangalore:  Was a garden City. Beautiful once. Just visited. Would not like to live unless a must. Like related to Multinationals there. Is very over crowded . Has a rainy weather. But never hot.Is bad for Asthma. Housing a difficulty.

Vadodara/ Baroda : is also a good place like Pune or Bangalore. Citywise. Hot in Summer, warm in winter.

As I said, purpose of visit would have helped answer well. Like pleasure or looking for woek related things.

Noted that you have mentioned West and South India.

  5. Chennai province

  6. You could check out Goa and not everything is expensive. You could rent your own place or live with a family.

Then again don't know what's your line of work and you may want to be close to where you work (naturally).

If you need any more info from Goa, I could try to help you out as I am from Goa. Contact me.....

  7. I do not know ur qualifications or interest or age so I cannot suggest any particular city. Nevertheless u can try ur luck in Delhi NCR as there are numerous call centres. This reminds me of a small incident where I had posted a question at Yahoo questions whrein I had mentioned that I am to immigrate to canada in 2009 and had asked for some online courses so I could get a job there. The reply I got was that I should keep myself and people like me away from invading other's country. Nevrmind that the difference.  Welcome to India and I hope u make it big here.  Secondly there are many houses on rent available wherever u would want to settle. So I think Delhi or Gurgaon is a good option

  8. New Delhi!!

  9. Try to live in Bangalore (Garden City)

  10. Dear Friend,
