  1. Your Metro PCS will be useless to you if your moving to Jamaica. The roaming rates will kill your wallet & theres no way to covert a Metro PCS phone for use in Jamaica...you need a phone with a sim card ( chip ).

Either buy a cheap used phone off CraigsList thats UNLOCKED, or wait till you get to Jamaica & buy a phone from Cable Wireless, or Digicell ( my choice ).

  2. Well, if you are MOVING to Jamaica just get a new phone here. Probably keep the old number for a few months so everyone who will possibly call can get ur new number. Phone service is pretty cheap in Jamaica.

  3. It will be roaming (if you enable roaming with your US service provider). My advice is to pick up a prepaid GSM sim card ($10) when you are in Jamaica, and sign up for an unlimited international calling plan while you are here ($18 per month). No credit card required. No minimum contract.

Prepaid GSM packages DO NOT charge you for incoming calls in Jamaica and there is no monthly fee for the basic service. If you need to make calls (not included in your internaitonal package) you can add minutes at any gas station or convenience store. This would be much cheaper than ROAMING.

All you need to carry with you is an unlocked tri-band GSM phone to put the sim card in. Optionally, you can buy a cheap phone for about $50 in Jamaica.

TRUST ME. It will ALWAYS work out cheaper than roaming.

  4. No,

In JA you can get a digicel or cable and wireless, or bmobile, or mi phone etc...Try getting in a foreign phone, where you can get a local number but receive calls in JA. (I.E. get a 954 area code number but call rings in JA, like vonage but, not vonage ) This way family here in the states can still talk to you and your family but, not have to pay a hefty phone bill.

Metro barely works in state, let alone out of the country.

in Florida at least, I know that the service is better in Georgia but, still not up to par. Only major carriers will roam, like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint etc...

Besides thats costly and just unwise. Most people there have cable and wirless as land lind service and digicel as mobile service, but be careful cause calling from digicel to cable and wireless costs more.
